CONGO: TRAPPED YOUTH

CONGO: TRAPPED YOUTH

0 - Default Title
Description
Congolese youth are at a crucial turning point, facing challenges of identity and consumption in a rapidly changing context. Although they have immense potential, they are often perceived as desperate, particularly due to alcohol and drug abuse and addiction to social networks. Young people aspire to a better future, mainly through education and professional opportunities, but a failing education system reinforces their despair. Popular culture and social networks promote superficial models of success, generating tension between values of solidarity and growing individualism, leading to an identity crisis. What's more, the search for escape is driving young people towards addictive behavior, particularly in bars and clubs. Despite examples of committed young people, the majority are confronted with distractions that detract from their aspirations. Fostering intergenerational dialogue and promoting education, community involvement and innovation are crucial to supporting young people in their quest for identity.
