Sakhya Sagar and Madhav lakes, jewels in the dry deciduous landscape of Madhav National Park, are the life-line of plants and animals of the park and important wetlands in this region. Both lakes in Madhav National Park are most suitable for wetland dependent species. The present study has provided base-line data on crocodiles in the Sakhya Sagar and Madhav Lakes. These Lakes are important wetlands that provide shelter and breeding ground of wetland birds. On the basis of study some points have been drawn to suggest measures for betterment of the wildlife and wetlands in the Madhav National Park, Shivpuri. The present study will help to define the habitat conditions of aquatic vertebrates and thus facilitate to take suitable measures for successful conservation management in both inside and outside the protected areas in the Madhya Pradesh and also in the other parts of the country.
