Molybdenum has a notable influence on N-fixation and metabolism in N2 fixing legumes. In nodulated legumes, Mo is necessary for the reduction of atmospheric nitrogen to di-amide by nitrogenase enzyme. It has been established that the symbiotic bacteria require more Mo for N2 fixation than does the host plant.
