The current paper aims to show the situation of separated children from a legal, socio-political and psychosocial angle and wants to discuss the matter of how to frame a professional help relationship to them. Resources for relation building and further professional knowledge in traumatological and developmental psychology are needed for this purpose. In this process these two aspects are not only annotated with scholarly literature but rather also with an empirical research. This work is divided into five main parts. Section number two covers the social- political, legal and psycho-social situation of the separated children. The following segment constitutes the empirical research and summarizes the results. In the fourth paragraph the cornerstone of professional help relationship is presented. This contains structural conditions of the professional help relationship, followed by a segment about the psycho-social encouragements of the separated children. At the end the methodical aspects of work-relationship building and the required core competences for social workers are displayed. This thesis makes clear that the professional support of separated children is a very complex field of work. It presents the qualified specialists with a big challenge. It requires solid legal skills beside specialist knowledge of traumatology and developmental psychology.
