Description
Fiddle player Annbjørg Lien is one of Norway's most gifted musicians and she is a leading figure on the Norwegian folk music scene. Annbjørg has her roots in traditional folk music, having played the fiddle since she was a child. Over a series of recordings she has constantly crossed new musical boundaries. Writing much of her material herself, she creates modern folk music with international appeal. On 'Baba Yaga', based on Russian folk lore, Annbjørg Lien places folk music in new musical contexts, using guitar, keyboards, organ, flute, percussion and electronic instruments as accompaniment. Her own playing has a rich tone, whether on the Hardanger fiddle, ordinary violin or keyed fiddle, and her performance style is both confident and appealing. Personnel: Annbjørg Lien - (Hardanger fiddle, keyed fiddle and vocals), Bjørn Ole Rasch - (keyboards, Minimoog and programming), Roger Tallroth - (guitars, mandola and bouzouki), Rune Arnesen - (drums and percussion), Hans Fredrik Jacobsen - (flutes, bagpipe, Meråker clarinet, oud) Additional musicians: Svein Dag Hauge - (electric guitars), Terje Isungset - (Jew's harp), Ailo Gaup - (drone vocal), String quartet
