Description
In 2009, Chilly Gonzales broke the Guinness World Record for the longest solo concert: 27 hours, 3 minutes, and 44 seconds of piano playing. This is just one of the many challenges he has set for himself. After spending a long period in Berlin—“where it all began”—and establishing himself as the “Entertainist,” he began collaborating with artists like Feist, Peaches, Drake... In 2014, he won a Grammy for his piano work on Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories, which was awarded Album of the Year in 2013. His Solo Piano series began in 2004, followed by a second volume in 2012 and a third in 2019. Among his other successful projects are the neo-romantic album Chambers with the Kaiser Quartet, Room 29 with Jarvis Cocker, and Consumed in Key with Plastikman. In 2018, he founded his music school, the Gonzervatory. In 2020, he published his first book, A Treatise on Unguilty Pleasure. After releasing a celebrated Christmas album, he followed up in 2023 with French Kiss, a love letter to France, and in 2024 with Gonzo. With 16 records and numerous collaborations spanning classical, pop, and rap, his influence is undeniable—Chilly Gonzales stands as a singular figure in the music world. Anka, the photographer Portraits are the most intimate form of photography, and that is the path Anka chose from day one. She started with nudes, a field ripe for exploration, creating a direct connection with her models. Initially, she worked as a fashion photographer for magazines such as Madame Figaro, L’Officiel, and Spoon. However, she soon shifted towards art photography, aiming to simplify visual elements and focus on her subjects. Over time, she developed a close working rhythm with a small group of models, photographing them repeatedly to construct a powerful and unique visual world. Chilly Gonzales became her first male muse. The idea of chronicling such a monumental character in a book was natural to her, and it materialized a few years later. Anka’s unique tribute to the iconic artist, CHILLY GONZALES, represents more than just photographs. For her, it means being constantly on the move, stepping out of the controlled studio environment where she usually crafts her images from scratch. This project required her to adapt her techniques to unusual settings, stepping out of her comfort zone. One day, he asked her what the book would be called, and she said: “Gonzo.” “And your new album? What will you call it?” “Gonzo, because everyone has called me that forever.”
