Proceedings of the first international conference on the Science of ancient Egyptian materials and technologies (SAEMT)

La première conférence Science for Ancient Egyptian Materials and Technologies, placée sous l'égide de Son Excellence Pr. Khaled el-Enany, s'est tenue au musée du palais Maniai au Caire, du 4 au 6 novembre 2017. Elle cherchait à offrir aux spécialistes des sciences de la physique et de la chimie appliquées à l'archéologie un lieu de rencontres, de présentations et d'échanges. Surtout, elle visait à souligner l'importance des sciences archéologiques et des approches interdisciplinaires dans la recherche en égyptologie. Ce volume rassemble des articles présentant des travaux de haut niveau qui concernent tous les domaines de l'archéométrie, menés à la fois sur des objets de musées et sur des fouilles archéologiques. Il donne un aperçu général des possibilités extraordinaires que cette science offre dans des domaines variés et ouvre la voie à une généralisation de son application dans la recherche archéologique en Égypte.

The first Science for Ancient Egyptian Materials and Technologies conference was held under the auspices of His Excellency Pr. Khaled el-Enany at the Manial Palace Museum in Cairo, from 4 to 6 November 2017. Its aim was to provide a venue at which specialists in the application of physical and chemical sciences to archaeology could meet, present their research and exchange ideas. Above all, it was intended to highlight the importance of archaeological sciences and interdisciplinary approaches within Egyptology. This volume brings together papers on high-level studies relevant to all fields of archaeometry, carried out both on museum objects and at excavation sites. It provides a general overview of the impressive possibilities that this science offers to various fields, and opens the way for a radical improvement of its application in archaeological research in Egypt.
