The two endure until the boy leaves and make his way to civilization. A blind curandera takes the child in, and a crippled Madonna, a protective priest, a lobo detective, and many others figure in the boy's experiences. His story encompasses the breadth of the Mayan jungle and all its hidden mysteries. The Indio inheritors of this region of Mexico are alive today, and they carry on their traditions and culture as they have for thousands of years.
