To my friend Mr. Crotch I am at a loss how to express my gratitude in any adequate terms; if there is any excellence in the bibliographical portion of this monograph, it is entirely due to his profound knowledge of that subject; without his powerful aid my own attempts would probably have resulted in failure; on the broad principle of honour to whom honour is due, to him I willingly assign all the credit of success.
