INSELKINDER ist ein Schulroman, der zwischen 1988 und 90 in Potsdam spielt. Merle Sander kommt als junge Lehrerin an ihre alte Abiturschule zurück. Als alleinerziehende Mutter eines kleinen Sohnes und kritisch denkende Frau erlebt sie nun Fahnenappelle, Lehrerversammlungen, Parteilehrjahre aus einer neuen Perspektive; sie verliebt sich in Albrecht Fahrenheit, einen Kollegen, der spätestens im Wendejahr 1989 zur Enttäuschung wird. Der Schüler Carl Felz ist Fahrenheit nicht nur intellektuell überlegen. Als im Sommer 1990 Fahrenheit in den Freitod geht, ist Merle schockiert.
Die Autorin erhielt den Literaturpreis des brandenburgischen Literaturkollegiums.
