Durch fotografische Vorlagen zun?chst aus der realen Umwelt gegriffen, verwandeln sich die Motive im Laufe eines mehrstufigen Entstehungsprozesses in die faszinierende Immaterialit?t eines atmosph?rischen Farbraums. Hinter dem durchl?ssigen Vorhang monochromer Farbe erm?glichen sie eine v?llig neue Sicht auf vertraute Naturmotive. Der vorliegende Band zeigt eine repr?sentative Auswahl der Arbeiten von 1986 bis 2008 und dringt damit zum Wesen des k?nstlerischen Schaffens von Franz Gertsch vor.
Hyper-realistic canvas portraits in gigantic formats made Franz Gertsch (b. 1930) famous at the end of the 1970s. His woodcuts are less well-known, although they represent a central element in the Swiss artist's creative work. They are devoted above all to depictions of landscapes and nature. Drawn from his natural surroundings initially by means of photographic models, the motifs are transformed during the course of a multi-phase creative process into the fascinating immateriality of an atmospheric colour space. Behind the transparent curtain of monochrome colour, they provide a completely new approach to familiar nature motifs. The present volume shows a representative selection of his works from 1990 until 2007 and thus touches on the very essence of the artistic oeuvre of Franz Gertsch.
