Macroinvertebrates as bioindicators of water quality

0 - Default Title
Description
The growing degradation of water resources and the impact of human activities on aquatic ecosystems have prompted the use of effective environmental monitoring methods. These include the use of benthic macroinvertebrates as bioindicators of water quality, given their ecological sensitivity and practical applicability. This study investigates the ecological integrity of the Luahuca River, in Menongue (Angola), using the South African Scoring System (SASS), widely recognized by institutions such as OKACOM and GABHIC. The research combined empirical collection, taxonomic analysis and evaluation of hydromorphological and physico-chemical variables to understand the dynamics of benthic communities. In addition to its scientific contribution, the work seeks to promote environmental education and raise the critical awareness of students and professionals about biodiversity conservation and sustainable water management. The results are intended to support future research, public policies and educational actions aimed at protecting aquatic ecosystems in Angola and beyond.
