Description
"Up there with the best of Eileen Jewel, Devon Sproule and Amy Lavere" - Maverick magazine. Manchester-based songwriter Kirsty McGee has recorded her new album 'No.5' in one take, in front of a small audience at the city's Contact Theatre (the show sold out within a week). The one-off show featured McGee's full band, The Hobopop Collective, and several special guests, including musicians working with Guillemots, The Brute Chorus, The Guthries and Richard Hawley. The show is presented on the record with no overdubs or repairs, exactly as the songs were performed on the night. Alongside the Collective's new interpretations of songs from McGee's critically acclaimed 'The Kansas Sessions', the 'No.5' album presents live performances of brand new songs and a magical new version of 'Bliss' from her first album 'Honeysuckle', the album which earned her the first of two BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards nominations. This will be the first recording to feature the full Hobopop Collective, and the atmosphere at the shows over the last year has been electric - some of that magic is captured on record at last.
