Number is called Amdo in Tibetan. The most famous master of Dge-lugs-pa, or the Reformed School of Tibetan Buddhism, Tson-kha-pa was born in Kokonor. The Sku-hbum Monastery was the place where he was born. The present Dalai Lama XIV and Pan-chan Lama X were also born in Kokonor.
