Japanische Landschaften

0 - Default Title
Description
This CD presents three of Wolfgang-Andreas Schultz's works inspired by Zen Buddhism, all created in relatively close succession: the String Quartet No 3 'Landscape of Listeners - Four People' of 2004/05, the quartet 'Images at the Bottom of the Lake' (2009/10) based on the idea of a Japanese flautist playing at a lakeside or in a boat, and 'Japanese Foggy Landscape' for flute, the shapes of which remain half-hidden through quartet tones, swaying rhythms and a sound that includes, as with Japanese flutes, noise elements.
The composer Wolfgang-Andreas Schultz was born in Hamburg in 1948, his interest in the tures of the Far East and particuarly in traditional Japanese ture began towards the end of his schooldays in the early 1960s.
Personnel: Gustav Frielinghaus, Lena Wirth (violin), Lena Eckels (viola), Yves Sandoz (cello), Imme-Jeanne Klett (flute), Anette Behr-König (violin), Boris Faust (viola), Clemens Malich (cello)
