Luca Fabio e Attilio Bandi hanno vent'anni e sono sottotenenti dell'esercito italiano. I due ragazzi sono inviati al fronte nel maggio del 1915, in occasione dell'entrata in guerra dell'Italia. Fabio è un convinto interventista, Attilio è nipote di un eroe del Risorgimento, ma la guerra si rivela molto diversa da come se la aspettavano. Raggiunto il Carso scoprono infatti l'impreparazione dell'esercito italiano e la terribile vita nelle trincee. Scritto nel 1930 e qui riproposto nella sua versione originale, "Vent'anni" è un romanzo fortemente autobiografico sulla giovinezza, la disillusione e la follia della guerra. Una storia che dice molto sulla generazione che, tornata dalle trincee, si appresterà ad acclamare e sostenere il fascismo.
