This 1996 live recording from Belfast features bassist/arranger Frank Tate leading a group of top mainstream jazz musicians. Frank has made his name recording and playing with the likes of Howard Alden, Ruby Braff, Ken Peplowski and Zoot Sims and he has frequently performed in the UK with Howard Alden, Dave McKenna, Scott Hamilton and many others. The four musicians that Frank is playing with are also popular performers in the UK. Tenor saxophonist Harry Allen has made albums issued on the British Mastermix label as well as BMG. Guitarist Howard Alden and pianist Dave McKenna have each released several albums as leaders in their own right on the Concord Jazz label and featured as sideman on as many others. Drummer Butch Miles is recognized as one of the top drummers on the NY jazz scene, as equally at home with a small group as he is with a big band. The band is on top form on this programme of standards. Nagel-Heyer's policy is to present the finest in Mainstream, Swing and Dixieland. And, with this fine recording they have done it once again.
