Here in the beautiful post-war Yorkshire Dales, our favourite veterinarians face many trials, not all of which are animal in origin. Of course, there are the usual farm and domestic issues, and here we're introduced to cats, dogs, rabbits and piglets, all of which receive the best treatment Darrowby has to offer. But, as always, it's the people who are the real problem for James and Siegfried - people like the formidable matrons Mrs Pumphrey and Mrs Tibbett, the Strong twins (who haven't spoken in 50 years), and not forgetting 'fiery' Freddie Truman; already a legend on the cricket pitches of Yorkshire.
