Description
The ever increasing demand of processing power by consumer and industrial has prompt the development of processor with higher clock speed. However, technical barriers such as heat dissipation and power consumption constraint have cause the development of higher clock speed processor non-viable. Thus, multicore processor architecture is considered. This project focuses on the design and implementation of multicore processor. The processor of this project is modelled on an 8-bit ALU. The 8-bit ALU is served as the basis for the implementation of multicore processor. Key features such as the cache sharing, bus interface and controller are discussed, designed and implemented. These designs are then integrated as a multicore ALU. Other than that, the project examines the performance of the multicore ALU. As a control, single core ALU's performance is evaluated as well. The project is then wrapped up with the comparison between a single core ALU and multicore ALU.
