He is stuck on the intermediate level in the church hierarchy, a rank which is too low for his wife's family, but too high for his best friends. One Sunday, after an overdone rebellious sermon, the bishop wants to meet Pitkanen. He thinks he's in deep trouble, but the bishop wants him to take on the bishop's office. Pitkanen grabs the oppurtunity, but first he has to sell all his ideals in order to realize them.
