Description
"I'm guarding the flames in the fire". A quote from an old Hungarian children's song. "The Fire" it is a metaphor, which symbolizes the musical traditions coupled with human and intellectual values embraced by folk musicians of Hungary. This unique repertoire is performed solely by those performers who make it their life's work to meticulously find the material, research its origins then bring it to a new birth, thus ensuring it is passed on for future generations to continue this musical tradition. The total inspiration and commitment given by these unique musicians to Hungarian traditional music is beyond doubt, their energies fueled by the sheer romanticism nostalgia and seductive power of this slowly disappearing treasure. I have had both the privilege and the pleasure to extend an invitation to two wonderful old singers from Transylvania. Maneszes 'Lli' Jzsefn, and Andrs Erzsi 'Erdei' bot of whom still practice the tradition as continuity of the heritage, to perform on this album. The musicians are first call in the traditional music scene whose virtuosity and commitment inspired me during the recording session. Also featuring on the album is the eleven-year-old Boglrka Fekete who currently is the youngest representative of traditional music. "This is how I keep the fire alive and the flame kindled, by following the strong traditions of 'the pathway' as it has always been, and will always be, feeding from strong roots, which in turn, opens up new life for the new.' - gnes Herczku
