Playing in pediatric hospitals

0 - Default Title
Description
The book addresses the influence of play on the pediatric microsystem during hospitalization from the perspective of professionals, pediatric patients, and their guardians. It is known that play enables hospitalized children to move from a passive sick state to an active one, which can be understood as a protective factor that enhances development in the face of the social risks of the hospital context. To understand the multiple interactions, we address human development based on Urie Bronfenbrenner's Ecological and Bioecological Theory. Hospitalized children need more than medication, food, medical care, and colorful environments; play is essential. In addition, "good" and meaningful interrelationships, those that enhance development, are important. Transforming the hospital environment into a permanent play space can enhance learning and development and improve patients' quality of life.
