Sustainable energy

0 - Default Title
Description
Since antiquity, ancient civilizations have used techniques to meet their needs. The Egyptians and Greeks harnessed the sun's heat. The Persians used windmills. Fossil fuels are non-renewable energy sources. It runs out and has harmful effects on health and the environment (the inescapable carbon cycle, a determining factor in G.E.S.). An energy source is renewable when it is inexhaustible over a human lifetime, and can therefore be rapidly renewed. Renewable energies are known as clean energies. They represent an alternative to fossil fuels, which are limited and responsible for a large proportion of greenhouse gas emissions. They have major long-term environmental advantages. But don't be fooled into thinking that they are miraculous. Renewable energies are not carbon-neutral, and each has its drawbacks. What they do have in common is that they produce little or no polluting emissions, thus helping to combat the greenhouse effect and global warming.
