THE ARABIAN HORSE (Hardcover) 1987 The Earl of Lytton (Foreword) Prince A.G.Sherbatov and Count S.A.Stoganov (Author/s) G.I.Vassiltchikov (Translator) J.A.Allen & Co. (Publishers) ---- From the Foreword: Prince Sherbatov and Count Stroganov travelled extensively in Arabia and studied the breeding of Arab horses during much the same time as Wilfred and Lady Anne Blunt. This book explains their concern for the survival of the purebred Arabian horse seen from the Russian perspective prior to the revolution. ~.~.~. ~ ---- ~.~.~.~ From the Introduction: This unusual and interesting work gives a contemporary view of Arabian horses, desert tribes and social conditions, yet, because it has never before been translated from the Russian language, is completely unknown to almost all modern Arabian breeders. Count Stroganov's estate at Tersk survives as the National Arabian Stud of the U.S.S.R., although the original horses were lost during the Russian revolution and the present stock are descendants of a fresh start made in the 1930's mainly by purchases from Crabbet Park, and later augmented by Polish Arabians acquired during the Second World War. In view of Prince Sherbatov's evident admiration for the Blunt's, and his suggestions for a Russian Arabian Stud, one can have little doubt that he would have approved. -------------- ~ ---------------- ISBN:085131418X THE ARABIAN HORSE (Hardcover)
