Anton Denikin (1872-1947) distinguished himself in the First World War and the Russo-Japanese War, and later became one of the leaders of the White Cause. He turned over his duties as commander-in-chief to baron P.N. Vrangel and emigrated in 1920. Denikin started a new life as a historian, writer, and journalist. He began his autobiographical work in 1945 and worked on it until his last day. The book ends with events of the Russian-German war of May, 1916.
