Michel Winock (n. 1937) es profesor de Historia Contemporánea en el Instituto de Estudios Políticos de París. Fue uno de los fundadores de la prestigiosa revista L¿Histoire, impulsor de la asociación Liberté pour l¿Histoire y es asesor literario de la editorial parisina Seuil. Entre sus obras destacan 1789. L¿année sans pareille (1988), Nationalisme, antisemitisme et fascisme en France (1990), Le socialisme en France et en Europe. xixè-xxè siècle (1992), Las voces de la libertad: intelectuales y compromiso en la Francia del siglo xix (publicada en esta misma colección, y por la que obtuvo el premio Roland Jouvenelle de la Academia Francesa). Complementario de este último ensayo es El siglo de los intelectuales, galardonado con el premio Médicis de ensayo.
