Land of Giants

0 - Default Title
Description
The legendary pianist McCoy Tyner's fourth recording for Telarc offers a dynamic mix of new Tyner compositions and jazz standards, and features Bobby Hutcherson, the most accomplished vibraphonist of his generation, bassist Charnett Moffett and drummer Eric Harland. The genesis of 'Land of Giants' was the rave review in The Guardian by John Fordham of the group's Barbican concert in July 2002. He gave the concert five stars and chose it as his standout gig of 2002. Telarc followed this up by proposing to Tyner that they record the group. Tyner was delighted to accept as his partnership with Hutcherson, easily one of the most influential vibes players in jazz and a veteran of many noteworthy recording sessions, goes back to the 1960s. Tyner calls Bobby Hutcherson "not only a good friend, but one of the world's greatest musicians," and his thoughtful, full-bodied solos shine throughout the album. Apart from the amazing musicianship of the participants, its Tyner's well-crafted compositions that make Land of Giants so special. More than a distinctive pianist, he's also a superb composer and arranger and he contributes seven of ten tracks. Rhythmically complex and harmonically adventurous, McCoy Tyner's 'Land of Giants' reflects the qualities of four master musicians who are relentlessly moving forward. Personnel: McCoy Tyner - (piano), Bobby Hutcherson - (vibes), Charnett Moffet - (bass), Eric Harland - (drums)
