How otherwise would he\nbe able to tame the three-dimensionality of space and subdue the\nurges of physics and structural mechanics with the creations of his\nfantasy? This creativity is however mostly restricted purely to its\nown field.\nRob Krier, is an exception. Since the beginning of his career in\nconstruction, he has always seen his love of art as a vocation – one\nwhich he nurtures parallel to his work. Fine art should stand in dialogue\nwith architecture and it is Krier’s ambition to have iconographic\nthemes brought into the latter, so that they might speak equally\nto both the occupants of a building and to bystanders, moving\nthem to thoughtful reflection.\nIn his Pictorial Journal 1954–1971, Rob Krier describs in compelling\nwords and pictures how he came to have a twin passion for\nfine art and architecture and told of his grammar school years in\nEchternach, his studies in Munich and his first taste of professional\nlife with Oswald Mathias Ungers and Frei Otto. In his Pictorial Journal\n1954–1971, which covers the period of Krier’s work as a lecturer\nand assistant to Prof. Johannes Uhl at Stuttgart University, the text\nis restricted to a minimum. The pictures are less colourful, more\ncomposed. The 'daily scribbles' dominate – mainly sketches and\ndrawings of people and animals, buildings, landscapes, objects and\nalso fantasies. The volume is rounded off with a detailed résumé.\nBorn and raised in Luxembourg, Krier moved to Vienna after having\nstudied in Munich and worked for Oswald Mathias Ungers and\nFrei Otto. After teaching posts in Stuttgart and Lausanne, he was\na professor at the Technische Universität in Vienna from 1976 to\n1998 and, in 1986, held a guest professorship at Yale University in\nNew Haven, Mass. Krier has developed urban-design concepts for\nStuttgart, Vienna, Berlin, Amiens, Montpellier, Leeds, Gothenburg,\nLodz, Amsterdam, Den Haag and many other cities. Projects with\nwhich he was first able to translate his vision of a spatial concept,\nsuch as Rauchstrasse in Berlin, Breitenfurterstrasse in Vienna or\nRitterstrasse with Schinkelplatz in Berlin, repeatedly found their\nplace in international publications.","brand":"Edition Axel Menges","offers":[{"title":"Used - good","offer_id":53130073276758,"sku":null,"price":0.0,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0925\/5829\/5382\/files\/product_image_9783936681659_1.jpg?v=1781603466","url":"https:\/\/www.momoxbooks.com\/products\/krier-rob-rob-krier-figures-9783936681659","provider":"momoxbooks","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
