Systemic protective responses to intranasal endotoxin application

Systemic protective responses to intranasal endotoxin application

0 - Default Title
Description
This monograph presents the results of studies aimed at identifying the mechanisms controlling deep body temperature, metabolic intensity, behavioral activity, and nociceptive responses in rats following the application of Escherichia coli endotoxin to the nasal mucosa. The study proves for the first time that E. coli endotoxin penetrates the brain of laboratory rats after intranasal application, accompanied by a single- or two-phase rise in core body temperature, shifts in the intensity of metabolic processes, wave-like changes in behavioral activity, and the severity of nociceptive reactions. Based on the data obtained, an experimental model of the systemic inflammatory process was developed, initiated by the application of Escherichia coli endotoxin to the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity of rats. The model allows studying the mechanisms of the development of the systemic inflammatory process under conditions of natural contact of living organisms with lipopolysaccharides.
