The Holy See was working in vain for the creation of an Armenian nationalhomeland, or at least for the introduction of guarantees for the rights of the Christian minorities. At the same time, it was also extending its normal humanitarian care to those caught up in the mass exodus of Armenians from Turkey. The volume reproduces the documents, most of which are hitherto unpublished, in chronological order. These are supported by short biographies of the main protagonists, by indices (of names and places as well as of the documents themselves), and by a glossary of specialist terms. Georges-Henri Ruyssen SJ, a Belgian Jesuit born in 1967, teaches at the Pontifical Oriental Institute (Rome) as well as at the Centre Sèvres (the Jesuit Faculties in Paris).
