This is expressed\nmost visibly without a shadow of a doubt in Frank\nO. Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. But\nthere are not just the international stars who have\ncontributed to this success. Spanish architects in\nparticular have designed unique museums that\nhave changed the look of whole towns. One example\nis the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla\ny León in León in Castille, built by the Madrid\narchitects Mansilla + Tuñon. Rafael Moneo, who\nrecently completed the annexe for the Museo del\nPrado in Madrid is still the undisputed leading figure\nin Spanish architecture, but in the meantime\narchitects like Mansilla + Tuñon, who trained under\nMoneo, are attracting attention internationally as\nwell as in Spain, and so are young talents who\nhave just left architecture school and are successfully\ndesigning museums.\nSpanish architects use a wide variety of formal\nlanguages. And yet there are some characteristics\nthat apply to them all: they have never been interested\nin the Postmodernism games; many of them\nvalue reinterpreting regional building traditions in a\nmodern way; they are also sensitive to special features\nof the existing topography. Kenneth Frampton\nsaid in this context that Spanish architecture\nessentially runs counter to the globalization tendencies\nthat are increasingly reducing architectural\nform to a comfortable aesthetic product.\nThe present book, which is also suitable as a\nmuseum guide, shows that this tendency is particularly\nconspicuous in the new museums. It confirms\nthe world-class nature of Spanish architecture,\nrecorded from Rafael Moneo’s early Museo\nNacional de Arte Romano in Mérida to Herzog \u0026amp;\nde Meuron’s new CaixaForum art gallery in Madrid.\nKlaus Englert studied philosophy and German.\nHe was academic adviser to the Zollverein development\ncompany in Essen. He has worked for\nseveral years as free-lance culture correspondent\nand architecture critic for the Süddeutsche Zeitung,\nthe Neue Zürcher Zeitung and the Frankfurter Allgemeine\nZeitung.","brand":"Edition Axel Menges","offers":[{"title":"Used - very good","offer_id":53400554504534,"sku":"9783936681178-V","price":3.49,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":false}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0925\/5829\/5382\/files\/product_image_9783936681178_1_b7260e53-c4fb-4dd7-8f34-a1bacd4bf46d.jpg?v=1778172439","url":"https:\/\/www.momoxbooks.com\/products\/englert-klaus-new-museums-in-spain-9783936681178","provider":"momoxbooks","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
