Christophe Leibowitz ist ein Winkeladvokat, wie er im Buche steht: schlitzohrig, mit großem Herz und immer in Geldnöten. Dass er Karriere gemacht hätte, kann man nicht behaupten, denn als Pflichtverteidiger vertritt er vor allem Zuhälter und Kleinkriminelle aus der Pariser Banlieue. Da bittet ihn sein erfolgreicher Anwaltskollege Lakdar um einen Gefallen: Für eine Million Euro soll er mittels Rollentausch einen üblen Schurken aus dem Knast holen. Der Coup gelingt, Leibowitz sitzt anstelle des Schurken die Strafe ab und freut sich auf den Lohn, den ihn erwartet. Doch Lakdar wird der Mitwisser Leibowitz nach getaner Arbeit lästig. Womit er allerdings nicht gerechnet hat: Leibowitz hat Sinn für Gerechtigkeit und kann ganz schön fies werden.
