Description
[Re-imagine sacred places]
Church buildings offer orientation. Church buildings irritate and provoke. In practical theological terms, too little attention is still paid to this emotional mix. However, sustainable utilisation concepts for church buildings require to recognise the diversity of emotions and references. In addition, current controversies, such as about the "Garrison church" demand a reflective approach to sacred materiality. This book leads into the process of re-imagining sacred places, based on the reflected perception of diverse and conflictual interactions with churches. On the basis of case studies, for example on the "Paulinum" in Leipzig, artefact-based and psychoanalytical perspectives generate forward-looking impulses for utilisation concepts that combine hospitality and vulnerability.
