The foreword explained that this index number of prices paid by farmers had been constructed to meet the need of a better measure of price changes in commodities bought by farmers for use in the family living and for production. The weights used for the index number had been determined largely from data collected by the Department of Agriculture and from Census reports. The prices paid by farmers had been collected by Crop Estimates. It stated that C. F.
